2nd SDA Appointment

We got a call today at 12:45 saying our 2nd SDA appt. would be at 2:00.  That was great because that would mean less time to get nervous.  We met for a very long hour and were shown several girls.  Some of the girls couldn't be pursued for various reasons.  We narrowed it down to a  9 1/2 yr old girl and a sibling group of 2 girls, age 11 and 7.  Then our time was up and the SDA said we could go and think about which situation we wanted to pursue and call back in 30 minutes.  After considering all the facts about each situation, we both knew that we would pursue the 2 girls.

We will leave tomorrow evening on an overnight train to southwest Ukraine, almost to Romania.  We will arrive around 9:30 am with our facilitator, Svetlana.  We are so glad to be working with her again.  Please be praying that these girls will be recepetive to these 2 unfamiliar people coming to meet them and that they will be able to bond with us.

It may be a few days before I blog again as we are not sure of the Internet connection in the region.

HAPPY THANKSGIVNG to all our family.  We will be thinking of you tomorrow.

  1. I was thinking about you and praying for your this morning! i was praying that He would be a light to your path and you would experience His peace. We knew our daughters before our adoption so we never had to look at pictures and make a decision that way - I can't imagine how that feels. I think it's wonderful that you are pursuing 2 - i think there is comfort in that for the children!

There are times when the country of Ukraine is so big! This seems like one of those times. Almost to Romania - wow! Safe travels and enjoy the ride! Remember to put the blanket over the heating vent when the train starts so you don't sweat to death during the night. Order the tea/coffee in the morning!

It was 2 years ago today that we set out for Ukraine - the day before Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and the good Lord be with you!

  4. Happy Thanksgiving then!

Svetlana?! Our translator was Svetlana. She was married with one child and from Mykolayiv. Her husband worked as an attorney. If you can, look on my blog, click on the slideshow which should take you to pictures of our time in Ukraine and pictures of Svetlana (or look at pictures in the blog itself). If it is the same Svetlana, she did a wonderful job from beginning to end. If it is the same Svetlana, if you can, show her pictures of our son and tell her he is doing wonderfully well, his English is great, he makes very good grades in school, and he still talks constantly. I would love to send her something for Christmas. If it is not the same Svetlana, though, I trust your Svetlana is as good as our Svetlana. If so, everything should go swimmingly.

  5. Happy Thanksgiving to you two also. I sent you an email. Theron said he is going to email you tonight. I called Charlotte and reported to her about the girls. She is so excited. Mom called and I told her the news. Everyone is excited. I'll email later.
