Going to meet girl

We are leaving soon to go and meet the 7 yr-old girl.  The situation looks a little better than what Konstantin expected.  We will know more when we get there.  We are traveling by car and will not get to meet her until tomorrow (Wed.).

We have more pictures of our venture today.  There is one picture of a backhoe just for Gary.  For a moment he thought he was at home and then the traffic came rushing down the cobblestone streets.  There is also a picture of a Weeping Willow tree.  This is for my oldest little buddy at home who is always pointing them out to me.  There is an interesting picture of a sculpture of a cat on a tree, made out of forks.  Have fun looking at the pictures.

We are surviving for two people that have never traveled much but McD's and pizza is getting old. We have come to love the girls at McD's.  They see us coming and just smile and are very helpful.

Will update when we know more.

  1. Your 2nd and 3rd pictures are of the Golden Gate- the street to the right of Yaroslav there is Yaroslav Val- if you go up a couple of blocks, past the Canadian Embassy and Indian House, you'll see the Radisson. Kiddie-korner from that is a really good Uzbek restaurant and they'll speak English. I think it's called Yarook or something like that- but you'll know because someone will be dressed up outside. Try the chocolate cake with the yummy pomegranate sauce! If you come down Kreshatik away from Maidan, you'll find TGIF's around the corner from Marks and Spencers. Il Patio is good, too. But, across the street is Pycata Khata which has great Ukrainian food, cafeteria style. Just a couple of doors down is Chocoladneetsya- great lunch menu and the dessert myleentsi are awesome (try the hazelnut with raisins and chocolate)! Those would be easy places for you to get to and they ought to have English speakers if you need help (and they have English menus). AND, if you are facing the market across from those last 2 restaurants, you'll see two "perexids" (stairs underground to cross the street)- go in the one on the left and around the corner is a great little souvenir shop in that underground mall- Oleksander has very good prices, many cheaper than the Uzviz where SDA is located. Again, feel free to e-mail me: mrsyellowhat @ yahoo dot com.

  3. Glad you got a good report on the girl! Try Pizza Celantano (pronounced Chelantano) for their potato al forno or their salmon. Their pizza is decent, too, but the potato dish was my favorite and a nice break from the same stuff every day.

  4. This is another try at posting. I called Charlotte and she was so excited and can't wait to see the pictures on Friday. Mom saw some of the pictures. I also talked to Theron yesterday. He called asking about you. Hope things are going well. Leah will be so excited to have a new cousin and her age. She liked the pictures to. Very pretty place.

  5. I don't recognize many of these sights. I think I recognize the glass building and the gold domed church. The cat is fascinating. Is this all in Kiev? You must get around more than we did. Anyway, how exciting you are on your way. We went to our son's region by train and came back to Kiev by taxi, which was awful; we drove all night.
