Thankful

Today has been an eye-opener day; so much to take in and think about; so much to be thankful for.  Oh, how blessed we are and how much we take for granted.

At this orphanage there are kids ranging in age (just guessing) from 4 to 16.  Depending on the age as to what building you are housed in but they all play together at the playground.   We got to play outside today and therefore we interacted with several children.  Bogdan was very protective of us when the other kids would come over to talk, look at us or to just see what we had brought to play with.  He would say nyet (no), mi mama and papa.  He was also very protective of the toys we brought and when he saw the other kids coming he would get a little nervous and get busy hiding all the toys so they couldn’t see them, funny guy.

We got to see some of his playmates today.  I don’t have any pictures of them because I wasn’t sure how the nanny felt about me taking pictures.   Some of them do have special needs and they were so sweet.  They would come up and want to hold our hand or just lean in to us to get a hug.  They would sure chatter away but we didn’t understand.  One thing I did understand is that these kiddos need a mama and papa and I just feel so bad.  I know we can’t help all of them but there are people out there that can make a difference to one more.  God doesn’t call everyone to adopt but I think he calls more to adopt than actually do.  Listen to what God is placing on your heart.  You have no idea the blessing you are missing out on.
We also got to interact with some of the older kids.  One girl in particular followed us around most of the visit.  You will see her in the pictures.  She is wearing pink.  There is another beautiful girl that sat with us some and talked with Bogdan.  She is wearing green in the pictures and has 2 kittens in her bag.  As soon as some of them saw we had a camera, they wanted their picture taken.  So we got lots of pictures today.  These children want to be acknowledged so badly.  I know it takes a special person to adopt an older child but God does equip the ones He calls.

Enjoy the pictures.  The first few are from the road we walk each day to the orphanage.

  1. I know. Doesn't it make you all at once peaceful and grateful and and sad and disturbed?

About the toys, I've been reading a blog written by a boy who had been adopted from Ukraine three or four years ago. He has recently posted about those moments when his parents came bearing gifts. He says he wanted everyone to know he was getting adopted but didn't want anyone to steal any of it away from him. Every little thing is precious - a touch, a look, a photograph - and in their lives, they can lose it all in a moment. Of course, that's not exactly how he said it.

The babbling was one of my favorite things. I had no idea, for the most part, what was being said either. I am really glad I recorded some of it. It goes away and is quickly replaced by English. After three months, there was almost no Ukrainian/Russian left.

  2. We are with you! Your little guy is really cute, and I cant' wait to see pictures of sweet girl :) They are protective of their stuff, and kids get really proud that they now have parents. Our Stasik(7year old), for first month would tell/scream to everyone he met, that we are his parents! :) but kids get use to have parents, and have toys. Praying for you!

  3. I so agree that God is calling more people than just those who answer. It needs to be a constant prayer that more will hear Him and answer, YES!
