Meeting Little Guy

We were able to get the documents we needed today at 12:30.  Usually we wouldn’t have been able to pick them up until after 5.  God is good isn’t He.  If we wouldn’t have gotten the documents early we would have had to wait until Monday to see the children.  We left soon after and it took 2 ½ hours to get to Berdychiv, which is in the Zhytomyr (pronounced -  G toe mir) oblast.  We first stopped at the inspector’s office, like the social services director as we know it in the states.  We talked with her a little bit and then left to go to the orphanage.  When we got there we talked with the director of the orphanage and the orphanage doctor.  The doctor explained little guy’s diagnosis and then wanted to see if we were still interested. Well, of course we were.   She was a little put out that we already have 3 children at home.  We had known before we got there that little guy is in the hospital for Bronchitis.  He was due to get out on Monday so they went and got him early.  When he walked in he was so shy and quiet but it didn’t take him long to warm up to us especially when we got out a piece of candy for him.  I had brought one of those doddle pads for him, which you write on and then slide the thing over to erase it.  He was so facinated with it and wanted me to draw this and that.  After a while he leaned over and hugged Gary and then leaned over and hugged me and kissed me on the cheek.  What a sweet little guy.  We stayed for about an hour and then went to the hotel we will be calling home for a while.  We get to go back each day for two, 2 hour visits with him.  By the way, his name is Bogdan which means God given.  Sweet girl is away and we will not get to visit her until Monday.  We can’t wait to see her.

  3. Wow, just wow. How exciting. I gave our son something new every time we went to see him. One thing he seemed to like was a wallet. I would put some money in it for him each visit. It wasn't much, but he got to spend it however he wanted. Our visits were different. We were there over Easter break, so school was closed, so we got to see him most any time we wanted. We took him practically all day. Our son had been listed as having some respiratory issues, but he really doesn't have any now. He's been with us three years. I think his problems may have been the result of living in a dirty environment. In any case, Bogdan looks very nice. I look forward to reading more of your adventures.
